Program Notes

Chirche is a rhythm pattern found in traditional Korean music. Of the myriad rhythmic styles called "Jangdan”, Chirche is the most complicated and challenging. The time concept is similar to 5/8+5/8+6/8 (or 3/8 twice) +5/8+5/8+5/4. As rhythm is the theme of this piece, the percussion scoring becomes very important. Chirche is an exciting introduction to Korean Jangdan.
