Program Notes

Written to capture the rising champion spirit in all of us, the work contains bold melodic lines and powerful percussion writing used to express virtues of persistence, resilience, determination, and excellence. Through melodic and harmonic development, the work provides interest to both performers and audiences before coming to a thrilling conclusion.

- Program Note from publisher

Champions Rising recounts the journey through challenges and setbacks until ultimately victory is reached. This composition is about persistence, resilience, and achieving excellence. We are all rising champions in one form or another -- striving towards our life goals. It is my intent for this work to inspire others to achieve their dreams beyond what they ever thought possible. Many people avoid pursuing certain ideas or careers because of the internal and external voices that say, “you can’t do that” or “you’re not good enough.” As long as we listen to those voices, we will never be able to achieve true greatness.
