Program Notes

Centre Island is a musical description of the journey to the island just a short ferry ride from Toronto across Lake Ontario. As the ferry begins its journey, one can see the majestic outline of metropolitan Toronto. A few miles from the city is Centre Island, where there's an array of flowers, trees and green grass, play areas for children, and gorgeous homes that have been there for years.

In the body of this composition, one can hear all of these elements, from the majestic opening to the themes of light-heartedness (representing children at play), to a gentle feeling of musical serenity. There is a playful tune, many countermelodies, the lovely expressive middle section, and a chance for many soloists and sections to take part in this musical exploration of Centre Island.
