Program Notes

In honor of Ken Mehalko's 50 years of music-making in Strongsville, OH.

- Program Note from score

The title states the purpose, intent, and style of this brief overture. Composed in celebration of Strongsville, Ohio, musician Ken Mehalko’s 50 years of music-making, this 112-measure, brisk overture opens with a riff in the horns followed by rhythmic underpinning in the low brass and percussion before transitioning to a full trumpet section solo in changing meters. This composition is full of melodic fragments that lend themselves to small rhythmic variations. In the final section, a solo trumpet presents a contrasting solo before full, vibrant scoring completes this ever-so-brief work.
