Program Notes

Arranged by Pierre La Plante (b. 1943), this song is based on three traditional tunes from the West Indies, Mango Walk, Tingalayo, and Mary Ann. The first song refers to working on a mango plantation, the second is a children's song about a remarkable donkey. The last song was most famously popularized by Harry Belafonte in the 1950s as he rode the calypso craze to musical fame.
