Program Notes

Allen Molineux is a graduate of DePauw University’s [DPU] School of Music. And when asked to write this work by his former band director, Dan Hanna, for the 100th Anniversary of DePauw University’s School of Music, he used as the initial theme a little trumpet tune found in his very first published work, A Brief Diversion for Trumpet, Trombone and Piano, The connection between the two works is that A Brief Diversion was written and published all when he was a junior at DPU. Capriccio is a mixture of light-heartedness and more serious passages.

The work received its premiere in December 1984 by the DePauw University Band, conducted by Dan Hanna.
