Program Notes
Can They Dream? was originally the second movement in my piece Three Questions for Solo Marimba. With the introduction of C. Alan’s flex-band series I was challenged to adapt a few works and thought this movement would make a good addition.
Although it has been musically transformed in several ways, the underlying melodic and harmonic material has remained mostly unaltered. As in the original work the theme remains the same: to celebrate the aspirations and goals people make for themselves Adapted from a marimba solo, Can They Dream? is a thoughtful, colorful chorale that celebrates the aspirations and goals people make and achieve for themselves as well as the lengths we go to achieve them.
