Program Notes
This is an interesting work, using an Eastern European tune, which is in two contrasting phrases. The opening one is moderate in tempo with staccato accompaniment, while the second is lively and energetic. The remainder of this piece presents variations of the two phrases, with interesting rhythmic extensions and obbligato lines, and an effective coda.
