Brian West (b. 26 May 1058, Brisbane, Aus.) is an Australian composer.
West moved to Hobart, Tasmania, as a youth and studied piano, trombone, and music education at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music in Hobart (1976-1979). After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education degree, he taught general music and instrumental music for the Tasmanian Education Department. He has taught on the junior high, high school, and college levels.
West has composed or arranged numerous pieces of music for the ensembles he has taught. The growing need for interesting young band music prompted him to begin writing in this field. His band piece The Spook won the 1991 Brolga Music Composition Contest.
