Biography

Brian Rhodes (b. Arkansas) is an American composer and educator.

Mr. Rhodes completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Central Arkansas at Conway where he received his Bachelor of Music Education Degree and where he studied saxophone with Dr. Jackie Lamar. He received his masters degree in saxophone performance at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana where he studied saxophone with Rick Condit and composition with Keith Gates.

Mr. Rhodes composes wind music of all levels including concert marches, festival literature and music for jazz ensemble. Many of his compositions were recently selected for inclusion on the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association (ASBOA) Required Concert Contest Music List. In addition, his brass quintet Roundabout has been included in the Texas Prescribed Music List. Rhodes' compositions are noted for being very accessible for young bands or for bands with limited instrumentation without losing educational or artistic integrity.

In addition to composing, Mr. Rhodes is an active saxophonist, pianist and organist. He performs regularly in the Texarkana area, currently playing lead alto sax in the Texarkana Jazz Orchestra.

Brian Rhodes currently serves as the band coordinator for Travis Middle School in Paris, Texas. Previously, he taught for nine years in Smackover, Arkansas, where he began composing young band works.
