Program Notes

This attractive medley contains four traditional folksongs from the Blue Ridge Mountains, which are located in the eastern United States. The spirited Jack-a-Roe initially highlights the trombones and euphoniums. The slower, more legato Come All Ye Fair and Tender Ladies is a plaintive melody first played by the flutes and horns. Next, an innovative version of Tom Dooley, then the concluding Barbara Allan. Each folk song presentation is set apart by colorful transitional material.
