Program Notes

Bloom is a musical exploration of the concept that the most courageous of flowers is the one which blooms in the snow -- against all odds, and despite adversity. At the work's core is one of the most common chord progressions found in pop music (I - V - vi - IV), with melodic fragments that represent themes such as unity, growth, and perseverance.

This work was commissioned by the Toronto Montessori School Modern Music Ensemble, directed by Rachel MacDonald.
