Program Notes

Commissioned to compose theme music for an historical documentary film about the island of Bermuda, Amis first drafted sketches of this work during the summer of 1999. When producers later decided to have Amis compose music of a different genre the sketches were put away and lay unused for several months.  It wasn’t until two of Amis’s close friends asked him to compose recessional music for their wedding that the musical fragments took form.  The work was scored for brass quintet, completed on November 5, 1999, and received its premier in Washington D.C. at the Campbell-Montone wedding on November 13, 1999.

In the years since, Bell-Tone’s Ring has been transcribed for various mediums and performed around the world for all types of festive occasions including bringing in the New Year for the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and during the winter holiday season with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
