Program Notes

The Air from J.S. Bach's Third Suite in D, familiar to many as Air on the G String, has been transposed to Bb Major and masterfully scored for concert band (winds only with optional string bass) by this world renowned composer/arranger - a work that has become standard concert band literature.

- Program Note from publisher

Among Bach’s most popular works, this Air is the second part of his Suite no. 3 in D Major. The original was scored for two oboes, three trumpets, tympani, strings and continuo. The Air was popularized in an arrangement by German violinist August Wilhelm for violin and piano, written in 1871. There are at least 31 different band arrangements of the Air in existence.
