Program Notes
The B.B. and C.F. was commissioned by the impresario John Henry Iles around 1923, following the amalgamation of the British Bandsman and the Contest Field, two (mostly) brass band periodicals. Iles, owner of both publications, became interested in the brass band movement after a casual visit to the British Open Belle Vue Contest at Manchester in 1898. With the assistance of Sir Arthur Sullivan and a number of brass band devotees, Iles leased the gigantic Crystal Palace in southeast London and staged the first National Brass Band Championship.
This march, like several others by Ord Hume, is now published for both wind and brass band.
