Program Notes

Based on a lovely Scottish folksong, the warm, flowing lines are gorgeous setting by Michael Story.

- Program Note adapted from publisher

Ayrshire is a county in southwestern Scotland well known for its majestic mountains, bustling seaside towns, unspoiled islands, and beautiful coastline. It is also popular for its many medieval castles and ruins. Some believe that Ayrshire's Greenan Castle is the possible setting for Camelot, the legendary castle of King Arthur.

Ayrshire and the surrounding area, as well as most of Scotland, is rich with traditional folk music. The melody used as the basis for Ayrshire Portrait is representative of the lyrical style of many folk songs from this region of Scotland.
