Program Notes

The Avebury Circles in Wiltshire, England are even more spectacular than Stonehenge. They are thought to date from the same time. Who know what they symbolize or what rituals were performed there? This piece imagines a misty dawn as the sun rises over the shaped stones, followed by a robed ceremony, a sacrifice and finally a dance.
