Program Notes

Based on a lullaby that an Apache mother sings to her child, this lyric piece is a series of variations on this beautiful melody. Different sections of the ensemble are featured in each variation, with counterpoint introduced to the young musicians in a natural and attractive setting that brings the tranquility, mystery and heroism of Native American culture to life.

Premiered by Chris Unczur conducting the Glenbrook Middle School Concert Band in a concert at the Longmeadow High School in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, on 11 December 2000 [i.e., 2003?].
