Program Notes

Antiphonal Fanfare was arranged for double brass quartet by Joel Blahnik. Later, this work was arranged, using the original title, for double brass quintet (4 trumpets, 2 horns a2, 2 trombones, bass trombone or tuba 1, and tuba 2) by Brian Casey. The work is adapted from the SATB double choir composition O Filii et Filiae by Volckmar Leisring. O Filii et Filiae is from his collection Cymbalum Davidicum (dated 1611) which contains homophonic motets with those for eight voices in double choir which are similar in style to those of Jacob Handl.
