Program Notes
The Anniversary Fanfare was commissioned by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, in honor of its centennial celebration. The premiere took place on April 13 1970 by an ensemble conducted by Frederik Prausnitz. Schuman later incorporated the fanfare in its entirety into his work, In Praise of Shahn: Canticle for Orchestra, which was premiered later that same year.
