Biography

Andrew M. Washburn (b. 1977, Morganton, N.C.) is an American composer, school band director, inventor, and trumpet player.

Mr. Washburn studied at Mars Hill University, near Asheville, N.C. He is currently the director of bands at Kings Mountain High School, N.C. He is a member of ASBDA, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He is a Time Warner All Star Teacher, and was the 2005 Gaston County Band Director of the Year. He is the patented inventor of Voca trumpet mutes, and is a freelance trumpet player in the Charlotte, N.C. area.

As a composer, Mr. Washburn has been greatly influenced by the American School Band Movement -- to see great composers write significant music for both professional and school bands has been a singularly important artistic and cultural event. His music draws from a love and fascination with all eras of orchestral and band music. This has shaped a desire to write meaningful, aesthetically intriguing music for band. His music has largely been written on commission in the Carolinas, but has been performed by school bands, brass quintets, and other ensembles throughout the country, including performances at University of North Carolina Greensboro, and the University of Kentucky.
