Program Notes

Based on two rhythmic motifs, this tightly-knit composition is aggressively exciting from start to finish. Adding to the excitement are the composer's brilliant, driving percussion writing and a creative use of dissonance. This is great young band writing in the composer's tradition of Pandora, Afterburn, and Adrenaline Engines that will totally engage and thrill your students!

-Program Note from publisher

Aggressivo is a piece intended for young band that explores aggressive rhythmic patterns and musical expression. The piece begins and is centered around a two measure motive that is heard in melodic, accompaniment, ostinato, and fragmented forms throughout the piece. A secondary, chromatic and dissonant idea is introduced in the middle of the piece. This encourages young players to embrace dissonance and learn more about chromatic/alternate fingerings. The piece culminates with both main ideas battling against one another before the final resolution.
