Program Notes

AdvenOVERture is an exciting concert band overture telling an adventurer's tale. Opening with an ominous flute solo, our adventurer comes upon an ancient temple and peers inside. As the entrance slams shut behind him, the band explodes with sound, only to make way for the racing of the xylophone and timpani. The clarinets, alto saxophones, and trumpets paint a vivid image of the tomb with fast-paced, soaring lines telling us the stories within these walls. As our adventurer makes his way through, the flutes, oboes, and horns show the absolute grandiosity of the central chamber. The adventurer takes a moment to bask in its glory as led by the tenor saxophones and horns before he hears creaks and whirs and realizes the temple is attempting to close him in. As the music builds and tensions rise, he makes a mad dash to find a new way out, with everyone joining in one last time and the bass drum signals our adventurer's escape and the epic conclusion.
