Program Notes

Adagio was the first piece for winds premiered by the composer Kyle Parsley, composed in December 2020. Composed initially with flexible instrumentation, later revisions would see the composition realized as a full-ensemble work.

A ghostly cry from the reeds opens the piece, and a somber melody slowly unfolds into the grand and triumphant. The heroic climax quickly returns to moody, but with a new-found adventurous resolution.
