Program Notes

This vivid fanfare features rousing brass motives, dynamic woodwind flourishes and active and exciting percussion. The piece is focused around E-flat major with modal harmonies throughout.

I wrote this piece as a dedication to my high school alma mater and my former high school band director, Clinton Marshall, for whom I owe my passion and music education.

Accolade was commissioned by the Perry Hall High School [Nottingham, Md.] Music Department, and the piece commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of the school's opening.

The term "accolade" is defined as an expression of praise, and this powerful musical presentation was written with just that in mind, a tribute to young students everywhere. The uplifting sounds of the spirited celebration reflect their energy and enthusiasm and relay a positive message for the promise of tomorrow.
