Program Notes

This heartfelt work remembers the tragedy at Fort Hood, Texas, in November 2009. The lyrical lines mix with a whispering military drum cadence leading into a delicate setting of the hymn What a Friend We Have in Jesus before concluding with a haunting version of Taps. A final dissonant, soft fanfare in the trumpets against a soothing final chord symbolizes the lingering frustration we all carry when events like this occur.
