Program Notes

You're in the back seat of your parents' car, driving home from a long day at a theme park. As the sun is setting, the sky is bathed in gorgeous orange and purple hues. Up in the sky is a single, long cirrus cloud, resembling a long dragon. As you start to daydream, it comes to life and goes on fantastic adventures, making an overwise dull car ride a part of the trip to remember.

Wispy Dragon in a Cotton-Candy Sky is an energetic and whimsical flight for concert band. Opening with a warm and lyrical solo from the baritone, it gives way to a light and soaring dance. Along the way, exposed solo sections are contrasted with proud, brassy fanfares, coming together for an exciting and fast-paced piece that could easily open or close a concert program.
