Program Notes

In my neighborhood, the only time of year when you can see a colorful sunrise is the winter, when the trees have lost their leaves. The day starts out cold and gray. Then you can see a red glow in the southeast, followed by patterns of pink and blue that are constantly changing. Over the next few minutes, the colorful patterns spread higher into the sky, becoming lighter as the sky brightens into full daylight. Winter Sunrise is an attempt to capture this experience in three minutes of music.
