Program Notes

Although the publisher occasionally advertised this composition as a march, it is actually more of a fox trot and was programmed mostly as a "legend" at Sousa Band concerts. It was dedicated to the management and patrons of Philadelphia's Willow Grove Park and was based on the legend that fairies waved their magic wands and caused the willows to cease weeping in the beauty of the music.

- Program Note from John Philip Sousa: A Descriptive Catalog of His Works

Light and whimsical with a slight rag-time flavor, Sousa wrote this as a tribute to the management and patrons of Philadelphia’s Willow Grove Park where his band played hundreds of concerts.
