William J. Schinstine
Biography
William Joseph Schinstine (16 December 1922, Easton, Penn. – 3 January 1986, Allentown, Penn.) was an American composer, educator and drummer.
Mr. Schinstine studied at the Eastman School of Music, the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, and West Chester State College. He was a percussionist with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, and the Tamiment Orchestra.
Schinstine taught instrumental music in the schools of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, from 1951 to 1978, owned a music store there, and played with the Pottstown Band. He was also founder and executive director of the Cornerstone Festival of the Arts.
Schinstine was best known for his many drum instruction books and the clinics he produced. He composed several works for band, many of which featured percussion soloists.
