Walter Mays
Biography
Walter A. Mays (b. 1941) received his D.M.A. from the University of Cincinnati. He has received awards from the Naumburg Recording Award; Composers Award from the Martha Baird Rockefeller Fund for Music; Tanglewood Commission from the Fromm Foundation; Serge Koussevitsky Grant from the Library of Congress. Oratorio, Voices From The Fiery Wind was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, 1981; War Games for Percussion, subject of two PBS documentaries.
Dr. Mays is a distinguished professor of composition at Wichita State University, Kansas.
