Program Notes

The South African folk song Singabahambayo is adapted into a delightful setting for young bands. Quiet bells in the opening evoke images of the desert landscape, while sounds from the players mimic warm, gentle winds. Joyful and rhythmic percussion then introduces the spirited folk song that's given a fun and upbeat treatment for the remainder of the piece.

- Program Note from publisher

Across the wind-swept Kalahari desert of South Africa, one can hear the drumbeats and the children singing the folksong. The singing grows, and more people of all ages join in the singing. The song ends with a should of "Hallelujah!"

Roughly translated, Singabahambayo lyrics are:

We are pilgrims on this earth
But our home is in heaven,
We say Hallelujah!
