Program Notes

Written in memory of the composer's grandfather, this work is based on the old Irish melody Slane (also the hymn tune for Be Thou My Vision). The work is a set of free-flowing variations, many exhibiting a dance-like quality. Though written over a long period of time, the work exudes a spontaneous quality, as well as tremendous imagination and compositional craft.
