Program Notes

Kevin Houben is a Belgian composer who has written more prominently for the Belgian brass band movement. His Valley of the Pinios was written originally for the Belgian brass band Retie and was later rescored for concert band.

The work is a musical representation of an area in north-central Greece that is known for its monumental sandstone rock formations and the grandeur of the secluded valley for which it is named.

- Program Note from North Dakota State University Wind Symphony concert program, 3 March 2017

Commissioned by the Koninklijke Brassband Retie (B). Dedicated to the musicians of the BB Retie and its chairman Luc Verdonck.
