Program Notes

Every day, I drive across a bridge that spans the Ohio River. Driving southbound from Cincinnati into Kentucky, a prominent blue sign can be seen at the end of the bridge. The sign says, “Kentucky, Unbridled Spirit.” The first time I read the sign, I immediately thought of horses. But as I thought on the statement, and of all of the unique creatures that make this place so beautiful, I realized that the “Unbridled Spirits” could be the deer, the squirrels, the fireflies, the cardinals, the blue jays, the furry yellow caterpillars, or the chorus of frogs.
