Program Notes

This concerto, commissioned by jazz great Marvin Stamm, features two solo trumpets, one classical, one jazz. Both soloists are required to play a little of both styles, as the title suggests. Originally written for orchestra accompaniment, the piece was reorchestrated for wind ensemble at the request of Mr. Stamm. The wind ensemble arrangement was premiered in 2011 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, featuring IUP trumpet professor Kevin Eisensmith as the classical soloist and Marvin Stamm as jazz soloist accompanied by the very fine IUP wind ensemble conducted by Dr. Jack Stamp.
