Program Notes

Trumpet Concerto by Danish composer and renowned bandleader Ib Glindemann was premiered in its symphonic version in l962. The Sibelius Academy Wind Ensemble, however, premiered the wind band version in March 2014 with the 80-year-old composer himself in attendance. Glindemann’s three-movement concerto is a brilliant, timeless and festive rendition of the traditional concerto format.

As a composer Glindemann has produced thousands of titles for the Hollywood scene, and as a big band leader and even symphonic conductor, to this day he still retains a stellar position his native Denmark.
