Program Notes
The composer described the piece as "a raucous toast that incorporates two drinking songs beloved by Franklin." In his program note about the piece, the composer wrote:
…the piece begins with a verse sung by the ensemble before the music takes off in a fast, celebratory toast. At the midpoint of the piece, the ensemble sings two verses from one of Franklin's … famous drinking songs, The Old Man's Wish [which Ben sang] thousands of times in his youth and quoted…more than once in correspondence.
