Program Notes

After a brief lyrical opening, the piece takes off! This dazzling work features bold, soaring melodic lines, syncopated rhythms and vigorous percussion parts.

-Program Note by publisher

To the Moon was commissioned for the Fieldstone Middle School Band, Dr. Charles Sommer, band director, for their performance in the Pascack Hills High School District Band Concert. The Composition pays homage to the United States achievement of the first moon landing in 1969.

To the Moon begins with the excitement and anticipation of the launch, the quiet before the incredible rumble of the engines. After the mood is set we launch and set off on a history-changing journey traveling to the moon! The ending section brings back the thematic material from the beginning along with the exciting feel of launch and travel music, bringing the piece to a dramatic conclusion.
