Program Notes
The Valedictory of Saint Paul was written for the Montclair State University Symphonic Band, directed by Mary Ann Craig. The work is a dramatic and highly emotional depiction of the aftermath of the Apostle Paul's conversion to Christianity. At the end of his life, Paul awaits execution in his cell but remains faithful to the cause to which he has dedicated the last thirty years. He reflects on his life's journey and writes, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." The music represents Paul's iron resolve, determination and loyalty even unto death.
