Program Notes

This exciting overture is based on contemporary chord structures, crisp rhythms, and a lively flowing melody. After a brisk introduction, a trumpet solo paves the way under light woodwind flourishes before the full ensemble jumps in. The dance-like character continues until giving way to a lyrical section utilizing flutter effects in the woodwinds. The final section brings back themes from the opening while utilizing a spectacular key change and coda section.
