Program Notes
The Swiss Shepherd, originally written for solo flute and piano, is a typical theme and variation piece centered around the tonalities of G minor and G major. Frederick C. Ebbs, who at the time was the Indiana University Director of Bands, wrote this arrangement. The work was written for the Indiana University Wind Ensemble and featured flute soloist James Pellerite. Mr. Pellerite was the principal flutist of the Philadelphia Orchestra for many years before becoming a flute professor at Indiana University.
