Program Notes
Mysterious and smoky, wild and roaring, the work Summoning Fire is just as evocative as the title. Inspired by visions of smouldering embers and great, lashing tongues of flame, the subject matter embodies a uniquely ritualistic feel. Blazing brass, flourishing woodwinds, and thunderous percussion are balanced with intricate solo-work, contrasting sparse instrumentation with the full power of the wind ensemble.
