Program Notes

Suite No. 1 for Band is composed by Western Illinois University alumnus Dennis Eveland. Written in three movements, the first movement is entitled Journey. In this movement, marked “with purpose”, we can remember when we all have started various journeys that life brings us. The tempo increases as we pick up momentum in our journey. Movement two is entitled Persistence and is marked “slowly”. During our individual journeys, we sometimes must overcome obstacles. In this movement, Mr. Eveland reminds the listener to never give up and keep moving forward to our goals.

Movement three is Celebration. In this final movement, we celebrate our accomplishments and look forward to the future. Using 6/8 and 4/4 time signatures, this entire work is an exciting conclusion to our journey.
