Program Notes

I composed Strait Defense in March 2014 under commission from the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force Band, Yokosuka in Kanagawa Prefecture. After that, this work premiered at "Fureai Concert 2014", the concert for citizens, at the Yokosuka Arts Theater on June 27.

The theme of this work is the sea and the defense of the peace. "Es", "E", and "A", which are German note names of the “SEA” notes, are used as melody in this work. The introduction is mainly composed of percussion ensembles.

I hope you all receive wonderful sea music!
