Program Notes

Star Gazing is a thoughtful, interactive work written with a young soloist and wind ensemble in mind. This work departs from typical grade III music with its subtly bitonal harmonic base, its emphasis on individual lines, and its unique use of color and orchestration. The title is suggestive to as if one were gazing up in the sky and letting themselves go in a daze of soothing and nostalgic thoughts.

This work, originally written for Piano, was written for Melanie Brooks and the Concerto for Young Soloist Project. It is dedicated to my first music teacher, Mary Beth Purchase.
