Program Notes

Spring is an exploration of rhythms in 5/8. The piece begins with the melody passing between different voices. Over the course of the piece, the melody becomes augmented and various 5/8 rhythms as well as a hemiola begin to stack on top of each other. After the chaos, the piece ends with a calmer melody and a major chord like flowers sprouting after a rainstorm – Spring.
