Program Notes

This commissioned work composed in memory of a student is intended as a meditation on the fragile nature of life and how a person can leave an impression, much like a child making an angel in the snow. Conveying a gentle mood throughout, the piece includes metallic colors in the percussion that evoke a crisp winter landscape, a three-note motive that references the student's name, effective contrasts of dynamics and texture, and a powerful climax prior to the soft ending that signifies the majesty of snow covered mountains with sun glinting off the white peaks.

- Program Note from The Instrumentalist

Commissioned by the 2013-2014 Century Middle School Band of Lakeville, MN and their Conductor, Mr. Christopher Bolson.
