Program Notes

Sketches of Canada is a three-movement suite of traditional Canadian folk songs. The first, The False Young Man, is marked “Lively.” The melody is first played by unison clarinets with light woodwind section accompaniment. The slower The Maid on the Shore (from Newfoundland) is legato cantabile throughout. The energetic closing movement, Bold Wolfe, is marked “Bright.”
