Program Notes

Inspired by the lone elm tree left standing following the domestic terrorist bombing in Oklahoma City. Now known as "The Survivor Tree," it has become a symbol of faith, hope, and perseverance in the face of tremendous adversity. This musical depiction is both emotional and uplifting and is sure to inspire and move all who hear it.

-Program Note from publisher

This work was dedicated to the victims and survivors of the bomb blast that ripped through the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995. Across from the Murrah building, an American elm tree was severely damaged by the blast, but somehow managed to survive. Now known as the survivor tree, this elm has become an iconic symbol of faith, hope and perseverance in the face of tremendous adversity. As composer Roland Barrett was writing Silent Stands the Elm, he was inspired by the symbolism and message of the survivor tree as he sought to express in music the message of this proud tree.
